This fiber-reinforced plastic ferrule is extremely sturdy. Used in split leading edges, the upper opening is slightly reduced in diameter so that it does not come off the upper spar when pulling on the lower spar. By means of a small hole in the upper compartment super glue can be added to adhere the ferrule to the spar.
